Two Individuals Charged in Separate Assaults on Prince William County Police Officers
MANASSAS, VA — Prince William County police have charged two individuals in connection with separate incidents where officers were assaulted on Wednesday. Both suspects were taken into custody following the events, according to reports from the Prince William County Police Department.
In the first incident, police responded to the 10600 block of Lomond Drive in Manassas around 2:40 a.m. for a domestic dispute. During the investigation, an officer was reportedly assaulted by one of the individuals involved. The officer sustained minor injuries. Police arrested Luis Alfredo Flores-Montano, 33, of Manassas. He is charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, domestic assault and battery, and preventing the summoning of law enforcement. Flores-Montano's court date is pending, and he is being held without bond.
Later the same day, around 9:45 p.m., officers responded to the 13900 block of Promenade Drive in Woodbridge for a report of a disorderly person. While attempting to detain an individual, an officer was reportedly assaulted. This officer also sustained minor injuries. Police arrested Kevin Joel Mejia, 27, of Woodbridge. Mejia is charged with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, and public intoxication. His court date is set for March 18, and he is being held on a $2,500 secured bond.
In both cases, the officers' injuries were described as minor, and thankfully, no serious harm was reported. The arrests highlight the ongoing risks faced by law enforcement personnel while responding to calls within the community.
