A New York man is facing multiple charges following an incident involving property damage, a carjacking, and a foot pursuit in the vicinity of Dulles International Airport.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, the events unfolded on the morning of July 27 when deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Claiborne Parkway at Tall Cedars Parkway. The driver, identified as William J. Harris Jr., 35, of Schenectady, New York, reportedly struck a sign and a tree. After the initial crash, Harris is accused of attempting to flee the scene in another vehicle.
Following the first incident, Harris allegedly stole a landscaping truck and then collided with four other vehicles on Claiborne Parkway. He then abandoned the landscaping truck and is accused of carjacking a private vehicle. He subsequently crashed this vehicle into a wooded area near the airport.
Harris then reportedly fled on foot into Dulles International Airport. Authorities, including Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, located and apprehended him after a search. No injuries were reported among the victims of the carjacking or the various collisions.
Harris has been charged with grand larceny of a vehicle, carjacking, hit and run, driving while intoxicated (second offense), and refusal of a blood and breath test. He was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond, according to the Patch Manassas report.
